About Me

My name is Denisha Lenice Barnes and I’m the S.H.E…E.O of Heavenly Freckles LLC. I was born and raised in Compton, CA (between Central and Alondra) on 722 S Clymar to be exact! I grew up in in not so safe area, but as a little girl, I had a dream to one day leave Compton and become successful. I knew I either wanted to be a Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher or a Program Director working with kids. I knew in order to fulfill this dream; I had to excel in school so that I can make my childhood dream a reality.

Being the mother of a handsome young king, I wanted to be able to give him a life that I've always wanted, but never had. So, I continued to work 2 full time jobs for a corporate company while still furthering my education to make ends meet. Not only did I want more for myself, but I knew I had to continue to be a positive role model for him because my son was watching my every move. Later, I graduated from Cerritos College with an Associate of Arts Degree in Business Administration and an Associate of Science Transfer Degree in Early Childhood Education. And now, I currently attend Cal State Dominguez Hills where I’m obtaining a Bachelors Degree in Child Development.

As a young child, I got talked about for having freckles and dimples on my face. I was called, “Dirty Face”, “Spotty Dotty”, “Dimple Face”, and “Ugly” just to name a few. Hearing those words made me fee insecure about my outter appearance  over the years. Yes, my feelings were beyond hurt so; as an adult, I knew I wanted to change the game by starting a program so that young girls will feel accepted in the skin they were born in. I've embraced every beauty mark that God gave ME because he made ME to be very unique. To ALL the kids that has ever talked about me in school, I just want to say, THANK YOU! You inspired me to keep pushing and I now have 

My advice to ANY young girl that has ever heard, “You’re not pretty enough”. “You’re not smart enough”. “You’re not educated enough”. “You’re stupid”. "You're brown skin is dirty". Or, “You’ll never make it out of the hood successful”. You tell them, I’m beautiful just the way God made ME! And I Can Do All Things through Christ Who Strengthens ME”. - Philippians 4:13
